They do still make several brands of acoustic couplers.
Actually there is no other way at a proper pay phone, you
must actually set the receiver into a closed cradle which
keeps out most of the outside noise and amplifies
the tone signals.
It is not an easy way to go, but def more anonymous :)
More travelling business types just go to a motel room
and plug in the phone jack to the computer.
The major computer mags, like Computer Shopper, have ads
for the acoustic couplers, of course the new ones are
a lot more expensive.
If you do not get the comp. newsgroups and you have
trouble locating a cheap one, I could post a wanted
message for one in either comp.modems or
misc.forsale.computers or other groups.
