About the Project:
Each of us has a tale to tell:
artist, activist, warrior, parent, friend, survivor,
believer, lover.
Some have endured tragedy.
Some give us hope.

This art installation is inspired by the people and region affected by Hurricane Katrina.

It honors the threads of language and experience that bind us as a community.

The inspiring images:

When I drove through the destruction in the wake of Hurricane Katrina I was moved by the piles of debris on the roadside. It looked like someone had eviscerated a house. I thought about that -- between the waterlogged drywall, the moldy newspaper, and mudcaked tufts of insulation someone's life was tangled. All their possessions, their symbols of who they are and who they belong to were layed out on the street in a lifeless, unintelligable heap.

The Project:

This project will be an art installation comprised of “Life Stories” from 1000 people. The installation would take the shape of a pile of debris left by Hurricane Katrina.

This project will raise funds for hands-on relief efforts in the hurricane damaged area.
