San Diego--At noon, we will meet at Robb Field in Ocean Beach to provide support to each other in reducing and/or eliminating our abuse of drugs, share heartsongs, and work on building a family network. If you need support in walking your path, or if you have support to give, please join us. Take I-8 west until it ends. Then turn left onto Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Turn right on West Point Loma Blvd and right on Bacon. If you're coming by bus, take the #35 to Voltaire and Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Continue two block to Bacon Street, turn right and go into the park. Fifth Annual Regional Valentine Love-In Camp-Out, Michigan. This Fall at Council we chose to reuse the original site within the Nordhouse Dunes area of the Manistee National Forest. Directions: Get yourself to Ludington, Michigan, on the Lake Michigan shore. From Ludington, take US31 North (actually goes east out of Ludington). Turn left on Stiles Road (blinking light a mile or so east of the end of the US31 freeway). Take Stiles to the end. Turn right; go a quarter mile or so; turn left on Quarterline Road (follow the pavement). Go about 2 miles to Nurnberg Road on the left. Turn left; take Nurnberg to the end. The site is through the pines you passed on your right just before you got to the parking lot. Welcome home!!!

DIRECTIONS:
A) from Leasburg (closed during VERY high water): Hwy. H through Onondoga Cave State Park across Meramec River, straight through 4-way intersection to WELCOME HOME.
B) from Steelville (not accessible during moderately high water): Hwy. 8 east to E, left across the low water bridge to WELCOME HOME. Parking space and canoes can be rented at low water bridge from Brown's Canoe Rental.
C)from Bourbon (drains quickly and re-opens soon after very heavy rains): Hwy N across Meramec River high water bridge to first right onto Hinch Rd. to Scotia Ranch Rd. (right at "wye"), straight through 4-way intersection, left at next 2 "wyes" to WELCOME HOME.
D)from Courtois Creek by boat (NOT during floods): 8 east out of Steelville, follow Bass Canoe Rental signs, follow county road across low water bridge; _do_not_ block road or use private property while unloading boats; _do_ rent parking space and/or canoes from Bass Canoe Rental or drive back to Hwy 8 and E to WELCOME HOME. Beware of turkey hunters and/or state police in camouflage hiding near the river as you float down to MAIN CIRCLE.

Colorado Family benefit for the the 1997 annual gathering. Come to the Mercury Cafe in Denver. Starting at 8:30pm with a drumming workshop with MKONO, then at 9:30 MKONO will play for awhile. MKONO plays traditional African and Caribbean drum rhythms that they put original melodics to. Following MKONO will be Double Dose, at around 11:30, another popular local band. Philadelphia Rainbow Family picnic potluck. Our annual get-together in the park. May 24, at "rainbow noon" and through the afternoon. Include drumming and a trade circle. Spring Council for Annual North American gathering. The site for Spring Council is close to the town of Mitchell, Oregon, which is on Highway 26, between the towns of Prineville and John Day. Mitchell is North of the Ochoco Forest.

DIRECTIONS:
5 mil. WEST of Mitchell, turn North on a road that says "John Day Fossil Beds & Painted Hills Monument." (DO NOT go on the Fossil Beds road which is EAST of Mitchell).

Go North on that road for 1 mile. Off to the left of the road is a little BLM Campground. You will see a hand- painted sign that says " Free Camping".

Bring drinking water; there is no drinking water on the site.

Remember this is only Spring Council--- the site for the Annual Rainbow Gathering will be determined there and announced as soon as a decision is made. Michigan Regional Gathering at Honawan Lake, which was the delightful site of the Autumn Regional 3 years ago. It's in Huron National Forest just a hop and a skip northwest of the little burgh of Glennie. Directions: Take US-23 north to M-65.
Take M-65 north to about 2 miles north of Glennie.
Turn left at the road to the National Forest campground.
At the campground entrance, turn left at the road to the lake access site.
Go a mile or two; you'll find it.
Please park on the abandoned air strip, not along the road!

Regional Gathering of the Island tribe Rainbow family. Full moon in July, Keeha beach, Bamfield, Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada. Concensus was reached at Keeha Beach, July 1997 that another site would be found for summer of 1998. Keeha Beach hosted gatherings five summers in a row and needs a rest.

There was a consensus at the last few Colorado Family councils to not have our traditional Spring & Fall Equinox regionals, but to have one in warmer weather in late August or early September. The directions are, from Fairplay, CO: South on rt 285 13 miles to FS 431. Go west on FS 431 5.2 miles to FS F33. You'll pass Buffalo Springs Campground. At the junction of FS 431 and FS 433, there are two signs. One says "Buffalo Peaks" and the other says "Fuelwood". Go left (south) on FS 433 .2 miles till it crosses the creek, and park. August Labour Day weekend
The mid-atlantic family is having a fall council at the Sunflower farm in PA. all are welcome to attend, no guns no hard drugs. Directions: from I80- take the Lamar exit, go south on that road until you come to 445. make a left and go over the mountain to Madisonburg. You will come to road 192, make a left. go through the town of Rebersburg. we are about 1 1/2 miles out of town. mailbox #76 on the right. If you look at your Rand Mcnally, we are on the eastern Pa map, left hand side and alittle up from center look for Rebersburg on state road 192. we are 1 1/2 miles east of town.

We always need a Welcome Home Crew to meet people at the top of the cliffs, share the Rainbow way with new family, and remind people about parking rules. We need at least 10 people to do this every month. If you<92>ve never worked Welcome Home before, an experienced person will show you the ropes.
Ask the Welcome Home crew about the parking rules. If you plan on staying after 2 am, take the bus. If you<92>re coming from the north, you can catch the # 301 bus along the coast highway from Oceanside to Del Mar. If you<92>re coming from metropolitan San Diego or points east, you can catch the # 301 bus at the University Towne Center mall. Call San Diego Transit for bus routes stopping at UTC. There is free, all night parking on surface streets near the mall. Try La Jolla Village Drive or Genessee.
Sept. 6-7
NERF working council at a place in the Green Mountains of Vermont called Red Mill Brook. This is in southern VT. Red Mill Brook campground is on the north side of Vermont Highway 9, three miles East of Woodford, two miles west of Searsburg. Highway 9 crosses I 91 in Brattleboro and joins Highway 7 in Bennington. Red Mill Pond is visible from the road on Rt 9, and there is a sign for the campground, both on the south side of the road.

Oct. 4-15
Shawnee, IL regional. South of Carbondale on Highway 51. Continue on through blinking red light at 4 miles South. Go 2 more miles south and turn right onto Old Highway 51 South. [If you reach the intersection which has a big water tower with a smily face on it, you have went too far]. On Old Highway 51 South go 4 miles and turn righ t (west) at the Migrant Work Camp onto Union Springs Road. Go 3 miles to Little Cedar Road and turn right (north) into Welcome Home.

Come together with your brothers and sisters for the ultimate high as we gather for a potluck picnic at the highest elevation in Missouri on Taum Sauk mountain beginning at noon, saturday, October 25. This site is located on the Johnson's shut-ins cutoff of the Ozark hiking trail. A two mile hike will take you to Mina Sauk Falls and although there is usually only a small tricle of water, it is the longest elevation of any waterfall in missouri. Bring love, peace, drums, food, & other good things.

The Mid-Atlantic family will be having a Halloween get-together at the Sunflower Farm, Oct.31-Nov.2. warm clothes might be a good idea, just in case. Bring food, love and smiles. We are planing to have some sort of shelter if it gets stormy. The sweat lodge will be up and functioning. Directions; from State College: take 322 south turn left onto 45east, turn left onto 144 go about a mile or so then make a right onto 192 east. 15 miles to Rebersburg and we are 2.4 miles past that, box 76. the access road is about 100 yds. past the house on the right. if you get lost, stop at the store in Rebersburg, the one with the "hershey's" sign.

Midwest Regional Halloween Council. A fine opportunity to ponder what has been and what is yet to be. It would be great to have more than the 6 folks who were in attendance last year! Once again this year it's at Sue and Eric's in Montague, north of Muskegon. Their house is at 8913 S. 48th St., Montague, Michigan--here's how to get there:
  • Take US-31 to the Fruitvale exit
  • Go right to where Business 31 turns south.
  • Go right (north) 1 mile to Meinert Park Rd.
  • Go left 4.5 miles to Lehman Road
  • Turn right (Lehman turns into 48th St.)--go 1.5 miles to the council
    Friday night arrival is OK. There will be room indoors for counciling and such if the weather dictates; there is also ample room outdoors for tents. This is a working council, not a Gathering or a party (though there will be plenty of relaxing good times too). Also remember that this is someone's home--please act in such a way that they will feel their kindness in offering their home has been returned.     Please bring natural untreated firewood, no paint, varnish, door knobs, etc. If you have wood, please bring it and we<92>ll get people to carry it down the cliffs. From I-5 in La Jolla take Genessee Avenue west. At the top of the hill, turn left or south onto North Torry Pines Road. The second light is Torry Pines Scenic Road. Turn right here. There will be a sign saying "Salk Institute" and 'Glider Port." Drive to the end of the paved road. Ask the Welcome Home crew about the parking rules. If you plan on staying after 2 am, take the bus. If you<92>re coming from the north, you can catch the # 301 bus along the coast highway from Oceanside to Del Mar. If you're coming from metropolitan San Diego or points east, you can catch the # 301 bus at the University Towne Center mall. Call San Diego Transit for bus routes stopping at UTC.     Thanksgiving Council for the 1998 Gathering of the Tribes in Arizona. The council will be held at High Creek, site of the Arizona regional in 1985. HIGH CREEK is off route 266, which is off route 191 between Safford and Willcox. go west on 266 toward Bonita. BE AWARE THAT THE BONITA STORE IS CLOSED. nearest gas is in safford or willcox (each about 50 miles away)..so fill up just before heading in. past the closed store take Fort Grant Road south just a short hop to High Creek Road (yes, there are rocks already there) go west for approximately 15 miles to the mailbox at the sunset loop turn....take the right turn (which is actually straight ahead) for 3.2 miles....the road here is rough, lots of water run off spots with quick dips that will catch you if you go too fast. there is a lovely meadow waiting for you !!!

Brooklyn,Ms is located 20miles south of Hattiesburg off Highway 49 Take Brooklyn Exit go to Main Street go east on Main till you run into Ashe Nursery Rd. Proceed 2miles on Ashe Nursery rd.until you reach a 4way intersection take a left there on 319 it is a dirt road also known as New York Road. Proceed on 319 for approximately 3and 7tenths miles and take another left on 319G about a half-a-mile you should see fires and Welcome Home.

    Alabama Rainbow Family 1998 Spring Counsel. Held on the 1st Sunday of the new year (January 4th) at Palisades Park just North of Birmingham, Alabama. From Birmingham take I-59 North to exit 166. This is hwy 231. Go north thru Oneonta. Stay on 231 north for about 2 miles past Oneonta and look for the sign that says <93>Palisades Park<94> to the right. Take that road up to the park. Follow the rainbows! Go all the way to the back of the park. We have a large cabin reserved that sits right on a cliff edge overlooking a beautiful valley for a comfortable indoor counsel/potluck/drum circle. We have the use of the building for free for that one day from 9 am to 9 pm so come early.
    We have found a very nice camping area on the beautiful Warrior river not far from Palisades Park. If you are interested in coming early and would like to camp please call 205-699-9712. Leave your name and phone number and we will get back to you with directions to the camping site. Please remember that it will be mid-January and camping on the river can get extremely cold(but probably not colder than 15 or 20 degrees at the low end)...so be prepared for cold weather!
